Oregon Caves National Monument:

The Oregon Caves is a delight for the wondrous formations underground, but be sure to take time to enjoy the world above.

Hike the Big Tree Loop trail through an old-growth forest, where you can visit the largest-diameter Douglas fir tree in Oregon.

Hike the Bigelow Lakes loop trail, one of the most scenic hikes in Josephine County.

On your way to the caves visit the site of the Oregon Caves Civilian Conservation Corps camp. Stroll the 1-mile loop trail behind the historic site that takes you into the forest and along Grayback Creek.

Illinois River & Eight Dollar Mountain Roads

Hike to Snailback Falls.

Walk across the swinging bridge over Illinois River near McCaleb Ranch out Illinois River Road from Selma.

Hike in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness (Babyfoot Lake Botanical Area, Whetstone Butte on the divide between the Illinois River and Chetco River, Chetco Divide Trail).

Takilma

Hike the historic Osgood Ditch, the water source for mining in the early history of Illinois Valley.

For the real adventurous

Hike in the Red Buttes Wilderness (Tannen Lakes).

Hike in the Siskiyou Wilderness (Young’s Valley, Raspberry Lake, Twin Valley, Devil’s Punchbowl).

Hike in the Rough and Ready River canyon, a river corridor qualified for Wild & Scenic River status.

Hike to Lime Rock.

Hike the historic trail to Kerby Peak and see a stand of unique Brewer’s spruce.

Hike to York Buttes and see the Kalmiopsis Wilderness in bloom.
