Driving you wild

Panther Creek Falls

Panther Creek Falls is one of the treats on the road to Oregon Caves

There are many adventures that can be enjoyed right from your car. Do have an SUV that’s never been off the pavement? Numerous historic routes are graveled and are perfect to ‘test-out’ your vehicle.

Caves Highway

Take the history loop drive along Highway 46 and Holland Loop. You’ll drive through the community of Holland near the site of Browntown on Althouse Creek. Farther up Caves Highway you can go fishing at Lake Creek Farm/Have Fish, Will Swim. Keep a lookout for the many waterfalls along the way.

Josephine Creek

Josephine Creek cuts a spectacular canyon as seen near Eight Dollar Mountain Road

Eight Dollar Mountain Road

Take a drive on the T. J. Howell Botanical Drive, a gravel road that is one of the most scenic routes in Josephine County. Visit Josephine Creek, the site of the first gold discovery in Oregon history. Take your swim suit to cool off on a hot day.

Swinging bridge

A trip out Illinois River Road is rewarded with a chance to hike across a swinging bridge at McCaleb Ranch

Illinois River Road

This winding, often narrow road starts in downtown Selma. Visit the Wild & Scenic Illinois River Corridor. On the way stop at Deer Creek Center, recently refurbished as an educational facility by Siskiyou Field Institute and Southern Oregon University at Ashland. If you make it far enough, you’ll find a swinging bridge that crosses Illinois River.
