Local burglary under investigation
From our weekly issue dated January 12, 2011
Cave Junction resident Barbara Miner reported to police that someone broke into her house on Sunday, Jan. 2, and stole several valuable belongings.
Miner said that she believes she knows who did it.
Two wedding rings, one belonging to Miner’s previous husband who is now deceased, jewelry, and keys to several pieces of equipment were reported stolen from the property sometime between 2 and 5 p.m.
Miner said that those responsible for the burglary were a father and son who live near her property and have allegedly stolen from her in the past. But despite her suspicions, no one as of yet has been able to determine exactly who is responsible.
“It’s still an ongoing investigation,” said Josephine County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jeff Iles. “We’re still attempting to locate these people.”
Iles, who responded to the call from Miner, said he took photos as part of the regular procedure and did not disclose more information on how the crime was being investigated.
“We don’t want to inform the bad guys,” Iles said.
Miner wanted to warn other residents of the fact that whoever was responsible for the burglary has not been discovered, and expressed frustration over the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office handling of the case.
“I have no confidence that this is going to get done,” she said, citing previous times where her house had been broken into and what she felt was inadequate investigation by police. “The [police] will not do anything.”
Iles said that sheriff’s department personnel were trying to find the people whom Miner felt were responsible and talk to them.
“Nothing’s been recovered yet,” Miner said. “We don’t have any immediate neighbors. [The criminals] broke in from the back. They picked their time and knew what they were doing.”
Miner also said those responsible stole the keys to her house, a nearby shop and two storage buildings.
“They took every key that we have,” she said.
