Different state, same outcome
Gregory D. Anderson

Some might think when a past governor that did little to improve the state except to grow the bureaucracy, the public employee unions and teachers unions for two terms would find little support for another chance to prove his mediocrity. But when tons of out of state money from unions is added to their local dollars along with their foot soldiers knocking on doors and a smattering of voter fraud, Mr. mediocre wins. Amazingly, this is against a former CEO of a large and successful company that has created jobs and hired many employees, and is a proven administrator. But we were shown when big bucks are spent giving the populace distorted facts and misinformation, little informed voters join with the unions to get more of the same. So California’s Jerry Brown will continue the states downward slide toward Greecedom.

Makes you kind of proud to be an Oregonian! Oh, wait a minute! Didn’t the majority of voters here do the same thing“

Well yes & no. Yes the majority in the State, but no, not the majority of the counties in the State. The preponderance of political power (& numbers) in the State is primarily the Portland and Salem areas.

So Josephine county is merely part of the dog that, like most counties, the Portland/ Salem area tail is wagging.

New York State and California are neck & neck reaching for bankruptcy. But don’t lose hope, our retread governor has demonstrated in the past, he is capable to lead his state in this tight race to the bottom.

Life is good Cave Junction.

I was taking my daily walkabout with my little Rat Terrier, Lillie Jean, last Sunday. I experienced a frightening few moments with dogs jumping over a fence and me ending up with a dog bite to the ankle. I want to thank the kind, concerned Officer Baker from our local sheriff’s department for helping resolve this incident.

I would also like to thank three Earth Angels, Herb, Mark and Larry for making sure my Lillie and I made it back home safe and sound. My friend Patricia was so kind in listening to my frantic cell phone call and helped me keep my cool.

The dog’s owner who was out of town during the incident was extremely concerned, apologetic and assured me that the dogs would be secured behind the fence now and in the future.

There are no finer, caring and friendly citizens than here in Cave Junction. Life is good.

The love of money
Crystal Griffin
Cave Junction, OR

I write in response to Robert Powers letter re: my letter: follow the money.

You infer that I would be happy with any woman elected president, but indeed she must be qualified. No quitters nor shooters please.

Capitalism unchecked is the main reason we are in this financial mess. Those who have pushed for free trade have driven jobs from the United States.

As a result, we have high unemployment. Why would we sell off our manufacturing industries“ We are propagandized to think we have to buy everything on the cheap.

If we stop and think that the product will not last as long, nor work as well, in the long run, it is not such a good deal.

High-speed rail would be a dream come true. Just imagine, we could take one across the country and be there in a couple of hours. But we must plan and sacrifice for the future and not fixate on the short term. I mentioned China in my last letter because they are on a rapid rise to outpace us economically.

Why they practically own us for all the money we borrow to finance wars and our debt. Their citizens save on average 20 percent of their earnings. We save 5.

A former supreme-court justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes, said that taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society.

A value added tax might be a more fair way for us to pay. And why for goodness sake, don’t we reform our tax codes“ Many people feel they need a lawyer or other professional in order to file them.

We are to the world how we treat the least among us.

Money is the not the root of all evil, but the love of money seems to be driving our country.

Our social programs of social security and medicare really provide a safety net for many of us who have paid into these. When you figure both of these into our tax structure, it raises our tax rate quite a bit. Tax breaks for those who make over $200,000.00 is not a fair and equal system.
