In response to last week“s letter, “Follow the Money.”:
Robert Powers
Cave Junction, OR
Yes, we are aware that Brazil just elected a woman president; as did Israel with Meir, Britain with Thatcher, India with I. Gandhi, Pakistan with Bhutto and Germany with Merkel, and Argentina with both E. Peron and Fernandez. Hillary would have been our first woman president but liberal progressives saw greater “historical significance” in choosing an African-American over a woman. But fear not I hear Palin may run in '12, so you will get another chance, if gender is your priority.
Regarding China’s “green” record, will you be purchasing “made in China” toys this year“ Anybody up for “product of China” farm raised shrimp tonight“ Are you aware China burns more coal and oil than any other country with the least regulation“ You laud their commitment to build high-speed rails but were you aware that Robert J. Samuelson, economist and writer for the Newsweek, recently analyzed the value of high-speed rail. He found it useful in geographically small nations with high density population centers i.e. Japan and Europe but a complete waste of money in larger countries with more diffused populations i.e. the U.S. and China. See (“Why High-Speed Trains are a Waste of Money” Newsweek 10-29-2010).
Let’s talk about Italy, great food and refurbishing ruins is nice but certainly not what you want to count on for economic growth and prosperity. Are you aware of their perennial unemployment problems, worst in the EU, with an official 7.4 unemployment rate but only an astounding 57.9 employment rate when corrected for those who have given up looking for work, (Reuters 9-22-09). Or that they are not far behind Greece in debt obligations (see Nationmaster online, Italy). Socialism tends to do that.
No need to “ponder” our country’s shortcomings regarding unemployment, the economy, education, homelessness and healthcare — just look to the example of booming economies, as you say, “follow the money”.
China, Brazil and India, they get it, the answer to poverty, misery and stagnation is ...CAPITALISM! Once they gave up on the failed economic systems of socialism/communism/statism and adopted capitalism their economies boomed. Individuals allowed to work, invest, take risks and enjoy the fruits of their labor, bring prosperity, what a concept. It used to work for us, until the government backed loans from Freddy and Fanny to millions who couldn’t afford them imploded our economy. Socialism tends to do that.
The Obama administration thinks spending trillions dollars ( borrowed from China because like Greece we’re broke) will “stimulate” us. And taking over car companies, banks, Wall Street, the mortgage industry. and all healthcare, like Hugo Chavez and Fidel, will lead us to a “workers paradise”. Ah...apparently not. The administration rewards it’s friends with bailouts and food stamps and punishes it’s “enemies” with more and higher taxes Socialism tends to do that.
Not to worry, the mid-term elections have started a “great awakening” in most of the country; OR. WA. and Ca. will take a little longer to figure that out.
Crosswalk Concerns
Lloyd Franklin
Cave Junction
You will probably say “Why hasn’t Lloyd been writing about the crosswalk“”
Well, I Lloyd Franklin have had an eye infection since September. My doctor is puzzled at how I got it. Everything looks good, so far I am OK.
As to the crosswalk, we must all write and complain about the crosswalk to do some good.
When you write, please say we also need a traffic light, a drainage system would be nice also, and repaint the crosswalk to help you and others.
Again, we can do it if we all pitch in.
Mandatory Reporting
Native American “ Ken Le Gaux
Selma
Well tonight I read your mandatory reporting crap on hunting licenses and I“m pissed to say the least. Just what gives you the right to tell anyone that they must tell you anything regarding success or not“date, time, etc. You“ve just gone too far.
Do you want to know what we ate for lunch, dinner, snacks, breakfast“ What“s on the trail“ I personally have had enough“
For years I“ve hunted here in Oregon and supported small towns by purchasing our supplies, trying to help them during off times of the year. Only to personally watch Fish & Wildlife along with locals on horseback chasing the elk into the park for feeding. The elk can fend for themselves.
We“ve watched and heard the breaking up of the elk herds over the years and that“s just bull——! Control, control, control.
Well, we“ve had it. No more hunting here. We“ll buy tags and licenses out of state until you loosen up on their bull.
Elk hunting is the one thing we look forward to all year. But you“ve finally put a stop to that“ Don“t tell me it“s not true, we“ve witnessed it. We“ll give our money and support to Idaho, Wyoming, etc. and support their towns until you quit these commie acts.
This will go to NRA, NAHC, and local letter to the editor.
P.S. I urge other hunters to join me, before there“s no hunting at all.
We want to hear from you!
