Similar exercises were held at the fire station in O“Brien and the district headquarters on Caves Hwy., and focused on pump operations.
Exercises are held by IVFD every Tuesday. The next one is scheduled for Oct. 5 at the district headquarters. The subject will be mask fit testing, taught by Deputy Chief Jeff Gavlik.
Approximately 12 firefighters participated in the training exercise at the Selma station, with five taking part at headquarters and six at the O“Brien station.

I.V. Entrepreneurial Center dedicated

A formal dedication for the Illinois Valley Business Entrepreneurial Center (IVBEC) was held at the Kerby Belt Building on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Scores of people attended the ceremony, including all three Josephine County Commissioners and many prominent community members.
Remarks were given by Rogue Community College (RCC) President Peter Angstadt; Deanna Quimby, a business programs specialist for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA); Menno Kraai, executive director of the Illinois Valley Community Development Organization (IVCDO); Pat Ashley, chair of the RCC Board of Education; Commissioner Dave Toler; and Don Griffith, Worshipful Master for Belt Lodge #18.
The IVBEC project began in 2007 as a partnership between RCC, SOREDI, the county and USDA.
Since late 2008, IVBEC has served more than 125 businesses, helped five entrepreneurs start their own businesses, created 29 jobs and helped increase business capital by $287,150.
Several local businesses had displays at the event, including the Kerby-based Rogue Truck Body.

Football action isn“t just limited to high school and junior high, as the teams from the Illinois Valley branch of the Rogue Valley Boys & Girls Club are well aware. An action-packed contest on Saturday, Sept. 25 resulted in a one-point loss for the Illinois Valley fourth and fifth-grade tackle team. The second and third-grade team also played well, and lost their game late in the second half.
