Takilma’s Tilton Sisters to headline SOG bonanza

From our weekly issue dated September 08, 2010

Internationally renowned Takilma-based designers The Tilton Sisters are set to headline the Saturday, Sept. 11 Southern Oregon Guild’s “Fashion Fun & Fabric Bonanza.” arts benefit.

The sisters will do a trunk show entitled “Creativity, Collaboration and Clothes.”

Surrounded by the Guild Gallery’s new show and flanked morning and afternoon by the sale of the Alanna McClean Collection of unique and beautiful fabric and yard at bargain prices, the Tiltons will show their latest designs and share their ways of creating unusual and versatile clothing.

Marcy makes sewing easy for sewers of all skill levels, as evidenced by her book “Easy Guide to Sewing Tops, T-Shirts, Skirts and Pants,” in which she describes the techniques needed to make sewing a quick and enjoyable experience. She also leads popular creativity retreats.

Katherine’s CD, “The T-Shirt Transformed,” presents techniques for altering thrift store finds into edgy fashions. She also produces a line of clothing sold in galleries and at fine craft fairs.

“Marcy and Katherine’s events are full of laughter, beautiful clothes and inspiring new ideas for your own wardrobe,” SOG Gallery Director Joyce Abrams said.

Both sisters are passionate about involving more and more women in creating their own clothing and design sense.

“Paris women sew, knit and embroider, and if they don’t, they have a dressmaker,” Marcy Tilton said, adding that she sees more American women doing the same.

The bonanza will take place at the Rogue Community College Kerby Belt Building, located at 24353 Redwood Hwy. The trunk show and talk is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., with the sale set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. Abrams recommends that attendees arrive early.

The event is a benefit program for SOG and its art scholarship fund for Illinois Valley High School students. Admission is $8 at the door for SOG members and ASG members and $10 for non-members.
