    Hundreds of non-profit organizations throughout Oregon, including several in the Illinois Valley, are in danger of losing their status due to their alleged failure to turn required paperwork in to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

  • Woman gets 19 months for theft

    A former bookkeeper for the Illinois-Valley-based Forestry Action Committee (FAC) has been sentenced to 19 months in prison for stealing more than $80,000 from the non-profit organization.

  • Sen. Atkinson assures local miners on suction dredge stance

    Last month, Sen. Jason Atkinson (R-Central Point) took a public stance against the practice of suction dredge mining, which has been banned in the state of California. Atkinson, whose district includes most of Josephine County, also declared his intention to draft legislation to remedy the influx of Californians who are now dredging in Oregon’s rivers.

  • Veterans for Peace members dispute Iraq withdrawal claim

    On Tuesday, Aug. 31, President Obama addressed the nation, and declared the end of combat operations in Iraq.

    But during an interview on Grants Pass-based KAJO radio the following day, members of the Rogue Valley Chapter 156 of Veterans for Peace disputed the president’s contention and continued their call for a complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

    The 2010-11 football season started off with a bang, as the Illinois Valley High School Cougars hosted the Brookings Harbor Bruins in Cave Junction on Friday, Sept. 3.

    A Jamboree at U.S. Cellular Park in Medford on Friday, Sept. 3 gave the Illinois Valley High School boys varsity soccer team a preview of its upcoming season.

    The Lady Cougars volleyball squad kicked off its season with a 3-1 win at home last week against the Happy Camp High School Indians in front of a large crowd inside a sweltering gymnasium.

    The Illinois Valley High School (IVHS) cross country team got its first look at the competition in its Thursday, Sept. 2 season opener at New Hope Christian School near Grants Pass.
