PARADE PARTICULARS - The 39th annual Illinois Valley Lions Club Labor Day Parade, themed “Illinois Valley - Through the Eyes of a Child,“ will occur on Redwood Hwy. in Downtown Cave Junction on Monday, Sept. 6 starting at 10 a.m. Participants will check in on W. River Street beginning at 8:30 a.m. The procession will pass a judges platform at South Valley Bank and conclude at Caves Hwy., where marchers will turn right on W. Watkins Street.
Drivers should expect Redwood Hwy. to be closed due to the parade between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The detour will take through traffic around the Downtown CJ stretch of Redwood Hwy. by routing vehicles along Caves Hwy. and Laurel Road. Barricades and Josephine County Sheriff“s Office personnel will direct traffic.
Volunteers are sought to help carry a 30 x 60-foot U.S. Flag in the parade. For information, phone Harry Johnson at 541-596-2104.

TICKET TO RIDE - The winning ticket for a 2010 Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide motorcycle will be drawn on Monday, Sept. 6 at the conclusion of the Illinois Valley Lions Club 39th annual Labor Day Festival at Jubilee Park in Cave Junction. Raffle tickets are available at Taylor“s Country Store and through Steve Lyons at Century 21 Harris & Taylor in Downtown CJ. FARMIN’ FUNCTION - The second annual Illinois Valley Farm & Garden Festival will be held in Jubilee Park in Cave Junction on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Features will include farm and garden technique demonstrations, live music, crafts and food. All-day events will include well water testing by OSU (bring water in a clean container), “Fixing your Bike,“ “Making Compost Tea,“ “Spinning,“ “Making Goat Cheese,“ “Wild Edibles,“ “Fiber Animals and Arts,“ and food preservation information. ‘18 ON THE 18TH’ - Rotary Club of Illinois Valley will hold its third annual golf tournament and barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 18 at I.V. Golf Course. NOTEPAD - Friday night football resumes at Illinois Valley High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3rd. Admission price for adults is $6 and $4 for students. It is an OSAA Foundation game, 50 percent of the gate receipts will stay at the host school, the other 50 percent will go to the OSAA Foundation and will be used to enhance the future of Oregon high school activities. Classes begin at Evergreen Elementary, Illinois Valley High School and for Lorna Byrne Middle School 6th graders and new students on Tuesday, Sept. 7. LBMS 7th and 8th grade students go back to school on Wednesday, Sept. 8, according to the Three Rivers School District “ Hazardous waste collection for small businesses will be offered during a “Conditionally Exempt Generator Day,“ sponsored by Southern Oregon Sanitation. The event will be held at 1381 Redwood Ave. in Grants Pass on Friday, Sept. 10. Companies which generate less than 220 pounds or 25 gallons of hazardous waste per month can apply to participate.
