Live animal demonstrations, farm and garden techniques, music and children“s activities will all be a part of the second-annual Illinois Valley Farm and Garden Festival. The event will be held in Cave Junction“s Jubilee Park on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Produce stands, crafts and food booths will have offerings highlighting local fare. Kids can create a bird feeder, participate in sack races and a water balloon toss and plant seeds.

Visitors of all ages are welcome. There is no charge for admission, however children need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Demonstration topics scheduled for the morning include: mohair rope making, food drying and raising honey bees. Afternoon offerings include: making an herbal first-aid kit, building a solar food dryer and bee hive information.

Learn to fix a bike, make compost tea, gather information on fiber animals or food preservation throughout the day. Oregon State University will provide a water testing service (water should be brought in a clean container).

Live music is scheduled throughout the day. Area musicians East Fork, Dale Hopper, String Beans and Denny Hare are slated to perform.

“The farmers and gardeners in the valley do so much to provide us with high quality food for our families,“ said Deb Lukas, Director of the Spiral Living Center, which sponsors the I.V. Food Coalition.

“They give us fruits and vegetables, meat, eggs, milk and flowers. We want to honor them with this Festival.“
