Shooting report referred to DA
From our weekly issue dated August 25, 2010
Reports of multiple gunshots at the 100 block of Ken Rose Lane, located south of Cave Junction, prompted a response from Oregon State Police troopers and deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff“s Office (JCSO) Wednesday morning, Aug. 18.
According to a police incident report log furnished by JCSO, the incident was first reported at 8:51 a.m. and officers were dispatched approximately seven minutes later.
At least four callers phoned 911 to report the incident. The call taker reported hearing the gunshots and commotion. JCSO said that the first caller reported six to seven shots fired and yelling from a neighboring residence. The second caller was identified as a contractor who reported that rounds were fired in her direction and struck the ground near her feet.
The alleged shooter, a Kenrose Lane resident, was described as a 20-year-old male who was “extremely agitated.“ He apparently came out of his residence with his hands up once deputies arrived.
A deputy noted that there is a large, scrap-lumber privacy fence surrounding the incident location, and while there has been no report of motive in the incident, it has been suggested that the contractors were mistaken for marijuana thieves.
No injuries were reported, and no criminal charges were filed, however a report was pending and the incident has been referred to the Josephine County District Attorney“s office.
