JoCo residents prepare for National Pool Championship

A six-member pool team, the Longshots, that includes four Illinois Valley residents, will battle for the $15,000 first-place prize at the 2010 American Poolplayers Association (APA) 9-Ball National Team Championship.
The Longshots, members of the APA 9-Ball League, participate in weekly league play at The Alibi Saloon in Grants Pass and other taverns in Josephine and Jackson counties. Team members are Robert Gilmore, captain; Tammy Free, co-captain; and Thomas Free and Melissa Gilmore, all from Cave Junction; with Tammy Williams and Brandon McKenzie, both of Grants Pass.
The event will be held in Las Vegas, Nev. Competition is to run from Thursday through Monday, Aug. 19-23.
The Longshots will join more than 300 other qualified teams from throughout North America. They will compete for a national title and a portion of more than $150,000 guaranteed prize money.
