Furnishing charge cut in fatal crash

A 31-year-old Cave Junction man accused of causing the death of his 6-year-old son in an alcohol-related accident July 31 will not face charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor, according to his wife.
In a Monday, Aug. 9 telephone interview, 26-year-old Martha Waddell said that the furnishing charge against Jeffrey O“Neal Wade has been dropped.
However, according to the Josephine County Jail website, Wade still is charged with first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless endangering in connection to the crash. It occurred near the 2300 block of Rockydale Road, and resulted in the death of Larry Wade.
Jeffrey Wade is lodged on $500,000 bail. He is being represented by Peter Smith from the public defender“s office.
Deputy District Attorney Ryan Mulkins is prosecuting the case. Neither Smith nor Mulkins could be reached for comment prior to deadline.
