Art Walk to feature I.V. clothing designer
From our weekly issue dated August 04, 2010
Clothing designer Katherine Tilton is the featured artist for Second Friday ArtWalk in Downtown Cave Junction on Aug. 13, sponsored by Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC).
Second Friday ArtWalk will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Sponsoring IRVAC is aided by River Mountain Printing and R.H. Ziller & Co.
Tilton will exhibit items from her select lines of clothing at the Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance office on W. Lister Street next to the DMV office. “This fun art to wear utilizes playful surface design and embellishment. Items will be available for purchase,“ said IRVAC.
Tilton is an internationally renowned clothing designer, artist and educator. She and her sister, Marcy, lead week-long tours of Paris and San Francisco to “explore the creative essence of those cities.“
Tilton designs for Vogue Pattern Co., and designs and produces her own lines of clothing and accessories. Her creations exhibit “a quirky sensibility.“ Marcy leads creativity retreats, and designs and sells a line of silk-screens.
The Tilton sisters will present a special two-hour program at the RCC Kerby Belt Bldg. on Sept. 11 to showcase their newest garments, and discuss their collaborative design process. They’ll display wearable clothes that function in everyday life and offer ideas for simplifying travel wardrobes. The event is a fundraiser for the Southern Oregon Guild.
The sisters maintain creative studios in Takilma and St. Paul, Minn., where they teach art, design and meditation workshops.
IRVAC is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to enriching the lives of residents by fostering creativity and providing art education and art experiences. For information, visit irvac.com or phone 541-592-4444 during business hours.
