We are all Greeks now
From Gregory D. Anderson
Cave Junction

We are all Greeks now. This might be a good follow-up for Newsweek magazine to its recent, “We“re all socialists now“ cover.

President Obama“s economic policy is following exactly the Greece trajectory: that U.S. taxpayers are assisting other “more responsible“ governments to bail them out. Let“s see how we are doing:

  1. Increasing taxes“ Check.
  2. Increasing regulations“ Check.
  3. Increasing government control“ Check.
  4. Increasing union growth“ Check.
  5. Increasing entitlements“ Check.
  6. Increasing government debt“ Double-check.
  7. Government deciding business winners and losers instead of the market-based selection that has made us (United States) the envy of the world“ Check.

It“s hard to believe that Obama has accomplished all this in such a short time.

Remember a short time ago when bus loads of SEIU (union) members surrounded and trespassed at private homes of people their leaders disagreed with in the Washington, D.C. area“ Just like Greece.

If you are one of those who has been watching trillions of taxpayer dollars going to an assortment of “stimulus“ bills that failed to stimulate anything but federal and state governments“ growing payroll while private industry lays off workers; if you“re one of those who think this administration is acting “stupidly;“ if you“re tired of seeing billions of dollars disappear to non-existent districts and other phantom projects, then perhaps you should emulate the “Tea Party“ folks who believe that less government spending, fewer regulations and lower taxes will create jobs.

One important advantage to this approach is that it has always worked when tried. Whereas the big government spending has never worked in the history of the world.

Need crosswalk now
From Lloyd Franklin
Cave Junction

I know that the state has the authority to put in a traffic light and drainage system on Redwood Hwy. in Downtown Cave Junction by the I.V. Senior Center Thrift Store, and the yellow curb by Taylor“s Country Store.

But we must all write to Illinois Valley News and say, “Something has to be done with the crosswalk.

“Any kind of light, a drainage system by the thrift store, and the curb by Taylor“s — we need it now.“

We can do it. So the more of us who write and complain, the sooner something will be done.
