SUMMERTIME SONGSTERS - Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce“s Concerts in the Park begins at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 24 at Jubilee Park in Cave Junction with a performance by “The Hanson Brothers.“ The six-week summer concert series will feature numerous area favorites. Illinois Valley Little League will sell refreshments.

CRÈME OF THE CLASSICS - Cave Junction Lions Club will host its annual “Classic & Antique Car Show“ on Saturday, June 26 at Jubilee Park in Cave Junction. There is no admission charge for spectators. Events will include breakfast (biscuits & gravy, pancakes, scrambled eggs & sausage) in the pavilion from 8 to 11 a.m., and lunch (chicken sandwiches, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, Taylor hot dogs) from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Show & Shine will run from noon to 4 p.m., and there will be 50/50 drawings and live music throughout the day. FIREWORKS FACTS - Wednesday, June 23 will open the season for fireworks sales in Oregon. Legal fireworks can be purchased only from fireworks retailers and stands with an Oregon permit. The Office of State Fire Marshal has issued more than 765 retail fireworks permits, and 150 display applications. Oregon law forbids possession, use or sale of fireworks that fly, explode or travel more than 6 feet on the ground or 12 inches in the air. Bottle rockets, Roman candles, and firecrackers are illegal in Oregon.

All fireworks are prohibited on all Oregon beaches, state parks and in federal parks and forests.

Illegal fireworks can be expensive, as under Oregon law, officials can seize them, and fine offenders up to $500 per violation including possession of illegal fireworks, and endangering life and property. Offenders also can be arrested. Any fireworks causing damage or misuse of fireworks carries a liability for the offender, who can be required to pay for resulting fire control or damage. Parents are liable for fireworks-caused damage by their children, plus fines.

TASTE BUDS - The premier “Taste of Illinois Valley“ event on Saturday, June 26, at Bridgeview Vineyards Winery on Holland Loop, will be presented by Illinois Valley Unit of Rogue Valley Boys & Girls Club. Specialties from at least 10 area establishments, as well as from various valley wineries, will be featured. Tickets are available in Cave Junction at Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co., Taylor“s Country Store, Bridgeview, and Bagel Junction. Phone Scott Thornhill at 541-592-4771 for more information.

SNAZZY JAZZY - A Big Band & Jazz “Extravaganza“ is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at Deer Creek Center, 1241 Illinois River Road. Sponsored by Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC), the Open Air Concert & Art Fair will feature the Southern Oregon Jazz Orchestra, Oregon Little Big Band and marimba soloist Gary Eby.
