MIX MASTERS - Illinois Valley News will host an I.V. Chamber of Commerce mixer on Friday, June 11, beginning at 5 p.m. at the newspaper office behind Dragonflyz. SMOKEJUMPIN“ SWEAT - Restoration of historic buildings of the former Siskiyou Smokejumper Base at Illinois Valley Airport is the goal of museum project organizers, who will host an annual project week. It will run from Monday, June 14 to Friday, June 18. Work to restore the administration and parachute loft buildings will begin daily at 9 a.m. Lunch and dinner will be provided to volunteers. SUMMER TALES - The Illinois Valley Branch of Josephine Community Libraries Inc. will hold free story time during the summer. Open to the public, the next presentation will begin at noon on Friday, June 11, with story-teller Joyce Fisher. The library is at 209 W. STATE OF STATELESSNESS - Oregon state workers will take an unpaid furlough on Friday, June 18 due to deep cuts in agency budgets caused by reduced state revenues. Most state offices and facilities will be closed.
BITE BEAT - Illinois Valley Unit of Rogue Valley Boys & Girls Club will present the first “Taste of Illinois Valley“ event on Saturday, June 26, at Bridgeview Vineyards Winery on Holland Loop. Specialties from at least 10 area establishments, as well as from various valley wineries, will be featured. ALUMNI ALLOCATIONS - IVHS Alumni & Friends has received 17 applications for its three $2,500 scholarships and the new community service award of $500 sponsored by SOFCU Community Credit Union. Class-designated voters and retired teachers will vote on the three scholarships beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, June 28 at Kerbyville Museum and continue until noon Saturday, July 3. There also is a polling place in Grants Pass for the convenience of those who live out of the valley. The new SOFCU Community Service Scholarship will be awarded by the Screening Committee.
NOTEPAD - I.V. Youth Soccer sign-ups are being held online at ivyouthsoccer.com through June 30 ... Junior Golf, a program sponsored by I.V. Golf Association for youth 5 to 15, will begin soon.
