Music at “Le Club,“ artwork offered at Chateau
From our weekly issue dated June 02, 2010
Beginning Saturday, June 5, through the end of September, “Le Club“ will be featured in the intimate lobby setting of the Chateau at the Oregon Caves.
Local favorite Ross Welcome is first in the line-up June 5. He will play guitar and sing during the evening starting at 7:30 p.m. A professional musician in Southern Oregon for more than 25 years, Welcome has appeared with such famous acts as The Diamonds, The Drifters, and Jerry Miller from Moby Grape fame.
During the years he“s also produced and directed a concert series at Rogue Community College. And he“s played many roles on stage and off with the Barnstormers and Rogue Music Theatre.
A third generation resident of Illinois Valley, Welcome has taught in public and private schools for the past 20 years and currently teaches at Grants Pass High. A composer and a song writer, he enjoys playing folk, country, and neo-classical guitar. Welcome“s CDs will be available as well.
On June 6 and most Sundays at 1 p.m. throughout the season, Bob Clark will play music in the lobby. An accomplished musician, he“s mastered more than a dozen instruments including fiddle, flute, banjo and guitar.
He“s played Celtic harp for 30 years and has performed all over the country. His repertoire includes traditional Irish music as well as original compositions.
Monday, June 7 at 4:30 p.m., Chateau Artist-in-Residence Jennie May Donnell will interview Forest Edge Farm owner Joyce Abrams in a discussion of her hand-felted llama-wool hat business. Illinois Valley residents, Abrams and her husband, Harry, have raised llamas since 1995 and have been selling hats primarily crafted by Isabel Gaige for the past six years.
The hats are sold at Southern Oregon Guild Gallery in Kerby, Grants Pass galleries and at Seattle and San Francisco art fairs in the spring and fall.
This presentation is the first in the series, “The Artist“s Adventure,“ which will take place Monday afternoons, featuring artists and crafters whose work is displayed at the Chateau Gift Gallery. Other routinely scheduled presentations will include “Around the Piano“ with Lindsey Brown and guests Tuesday evenings; and “Tall Tales & Poetry“ with Dave Hodges and guests Wednesday evenings.
Thursdays at 8 p.m., David Thompson from the National Park Service will host “At the Campfire,“ a popular summertime activity.
Beginning Friday, June 11, Jennie May Donnell will present a variety of programs each weekend.
“Leaning into the Wind“ takes place most Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. This exploration of pioneer women“s experiences will be followed by “Family Stories“ Saturdays at 4:30 p.m., and “The Healing Power of Trees“ Sundays at 4:30 p.m.
This celebration of the arts also will showcase other local and regional performers and artists. Phone 541-592-3400 for dinner or lodging reservations. See “Events Calendar“ at www.OregonCavesChateau.com for further information.
