DAY AT THE RACES - Illinois Valley Booster Club will hold a Community Field Day at the IVHS athletic field on Saturday, June 5 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Teams will participate in contests including a wheelbarrow race and water balloon toss. Sign up a team of five to 10 at IVHS beforehand or at the event.

STEPPING STONE - A “Moving Up“ ceremony for students completing eighth-grade will be held on Monday, June 7 on the back lawn at Lorna Byrne Middle School. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Recipients of special awards also will be recognized. Refreshments will be served afterward for eighth-grade students and their families.

FREE READS - The Illinois Valley Branch of Josephine Community Libraries Inc. will hold free story time during the summer. Open to the public, the next presentation will begin at noon on Friday, June 11, with story-teller Joyce Fisher. The library is at 209 W. Palmer St. in Cave Junction, just down the street from Carlos“ Restaurante. Phone 541-592-4778.

TASTE IT! - Illinois Valley unit of Rogue Valley Boys & Girls Club will present the first “Taste of Illinois Valley“ event on Saturday, June 26 at Bridgeview Vineyards Winery. Specialties from at least 10 area establishments, as well as from valley wineries, will be featured. Tickets are available in Cave Junction at Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co., Taylor“s Country Store, Bridgeview, and Bagel Junction. Phone Scott Thornhill at 541-592-4771.

ALUMNI ALLOCATIONS - IVHS Alumni & Friends has received 17 applications for its three $2,500 scholarships and the new community service award of $500 sponsored by SOFCU Community Credit Union. Class-designated voters and retired teachers will vote on the three scholarships beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, June 28 at Kerbyville Museum and continue until noon Saturday, July 3. There also is a polling place in Grants Pass for the convenience of those who live out of the valley. The new SOFCU community service scholarship will be awarded by the Screening Committee.

NOTEPAD - Josephine County Land Development Advisory Committee will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, June 7 at Cave Junction City Hall. An overview of the committee will be presented by Chairman Harold Haugan, followed by a planning overview and comments from the public “ Junior Golf, a program sponsored by the I.V. Golf Association for youth 5- to 15-years-old, will begin soon. Sign-ups will be held on Saturday, June 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Illinois Valley Golf Course “ Twi-light Golf League results a third of the way through the season have Monday night teams from Clouser Drilling (Chuck Gill and Jason Gill) and Taylor“s Country Store (Chuck Taylor and Scott Taylor) tied at first place with 32 points. On Wednesday nights, Bill Leahy and Bob Kalamaha are holding on to first place with 36 points; Holland Store team Bob Reis and Neil Reiske are second at 35 points “ Evergreen Federal Bank“s fiberglas bears, “The Wild Bunch,“ made their debut in Grants Pass during Memorial Day weekend. The 16 all-new works of art feature whimsical bears on motorcycles and will be available for viewing in Grants Pass at the seasonal Concerts in the Park through Aug. 10, and at the Josephine County Fair Aug. 17 through 21 “ Bumper stickers: *Always remember you“re unique, just like everyone else. *Don“t play stupid with me ...
