Itty-bitty kitty
From our weekly issue dated June 02, 2010
Suddenly there are five cats in the house. If you have four, what“s one more“
Actually, one more — especially if it“s an itty-bitty kitty — can result in interrupted sleep (ours), potty training (hers), and a host of other “new baby“ situations.
What happened is that a teen-aged couple came to our front door early last week cradling a female calico kitten. They found her in the middle of a busy street, and were going door-to-door to find its owner. Jan told them that if no one claimed her (the kitten), we“d take it in.
A while later the teens returned, still holding the hairy babe. So we took her in, although some might say that we were taken in. We don“t feel that way. So far, we haven“t come up with a name, although “Sparkle“ and “Foxy Face“ eventually will be involved. For example: “Sparkle (something) Foxy Face.“ We“re still working on it.
New kitty now is in the company of our four male cats.
As of this writing, this little girl has grown from her weight of less than a pound, when she arrived, to around 1.5 pounds. “Scrappy,“ who some 17 months ago was a “to-our-door“ gift from above, has become her foster father. He cleans her, makes sure that her droppings are covered in the litter box, and protects her. Plus, they play, which is great for “Scrappy,“ who is a year-plus. He couldn“t get our other males to play, as they are too sophisticated.
This is a short column because besides having a playful handful of a newcomer, we hosted a grandson and his mom during the past few days. We hadn“t seen him since he was an infant. He“s now 25. With all that going on, we“re a wee bit tired. Next week: The Visit.
We want to hear from you!
