Neil Francis White

Neil White

Neil Francis White, a well-known Cave Junction “street person,“ who moved to Texas late in 2009, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in a nursing home in Denver City, Texas. He was 58.

He had moved to stay with longtime friends and former Cave Junction residents, Randy & Rebecca Lindauer, of Hereford.

Neil was born on Aug. 13, 1951, in Edgewood, Pa. near Pittsburgh. He spent a lot of time “on the road,“ and moved to Cave Junction in summer 1987. He lived there variously in a tent in the woods, in a camper on Laurel Road, in the homes of friends, and then on the streets around Cave Junction.

He had worked a number of jobs before moving to Cave Junction. His employment included custom car restoration, landscaping, exotic fish sales and aquarium installation, music store and recording studio clerk and technician, guitarist in a back-up group; and restaurant dishwasher, cook and manager.

He also had played rhythm guitar in a garage band, the “Arondelles.“ He graduated from high school in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In January this year, Neil became aware of a cancerous growth in his mouth, which spread, resulting in his death.

He had been married, and had a daughter. The location or status of her and his ex-wife are unknown; the same applies to a brother and Neil“s parents.

Cremation is planned. At his request, Neil“s ashes will be sent to Cave Junction for scattering “somewhere in the woods.“ A memorial service tentatively is planned in Cave Junction later this year. Illinois Valley News will have the announcement.
