Cheerleading Camp
From Sabrina Van Tassel
Cave Junction

I am a junior at Illinois Valley High School, an active member of the Illinois Valley High School cheerleading squad, and have been cheering for almost four years.

This summer we have a chance to attend a Cheerleading Camp at Southern Oregon University in Ashland on July 12 through 15. We would stay in the college dorms and eat in the school cafeteria. Practice would begin each morning around 7 and go until about 7 at night.

We would work on perfecting skills we already use and learn more advanced stunts, cheers, dance and technique. The NCA (National Cheerleading Association) also would work with us on teamwork, eating healthy, and exercise. All of this information will prepare us for competition which we are hoping to start.

We want to take 12 cheerleaders and two coaches to camp this summer. For this to happen we need to raise $4,000. We don“t have enough time to make this happen with fund-raisers so we are asking for sponsors. We will announce sponsor names at all the Cougar football games, and during the Illinois Valley Lions Club Labor Day Festival we will have a banner with our sponsor names on it. Also, we will put a “thank you“ in Illinois Valley News for all to see.

Donation checks can be made out to “IVHS Cheerleading,“ and taken to the IVHS office. We need all the support money by Tuesday, June 1 to be able to register.
