“VALLEY VISITOR“ - Next week“s issue will include the annual “Valley Visitor,“ highlighting the many attractions of Illinois Valley. The special publication is produced by Illinois Valley News and includes many stories and photos for the enjoyment of visitors and residents alike.

CHAMBERS A LA CHATEAU - Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a fun, informal mixer for members and others in business on Friday, May 21, at the Chateau at Oregon Caves National Monument. LITERARY LANDSCAPE - Bring gardening tools and meet at the Cave Junction Branch of Josephine Community Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 22 to help complete a landscaping update. The project includes planting, spreading mulch and moving decomposed granite. Wheel barrows and shovels especially are needed, said Linda Naydol. Phone her with any questions at 541-592-3289.

MINE MINDS - The pros and cons of reforming the 1972 mining law will be the topic during a town hall meeting on Tuesday, May 25. The open gathering will begin at 6 p.m. at Anne G. Basker Auditorium in Grants Pass, adjacent to the Josephine County Courthouse.

“IN MEMORIAM“ - Illinois Valley High School will present its third annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Wednesday, May 26 beginning at 10 a.m. The ceremony will highlight area veterans groups, and recognize IVHS student and staff family members who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The program will include performances of patriotic music by the IVHS Band and choirs.

NOTEPAD - First Crush, an event featuring Southern Oregon wine, food, cheese and chocolates for the benefit of Josephine County food banks, will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Flower Bldg. at the fairgrounds in Grants Pass. Illinois Valley“s Bridgeview and Windridge wineries are participating, as are Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co. and Taylor“s Sausage. Phone “Bob“ at 541-955-8003 for more information ... Illinois Valley Booster Club will hold a Community Field Day at the IVHS athletic field on Saturday, June 5 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Teams will participate in contests including a wheelbarrow race and water balloon toss. Sign up a team of five to 10 at IVHS beforehand or at the event ... The National Smokejumper Association will celebrate 70 years since the advent of smokejumping in 1940 by hosting a reunion June 11 to 13 in Redding, Calif. Some former members from the Siskiyou Smokejumper Base at I.V. Airport plan to attend “ Boys & Girls Club of Illinois Valley will hold the first “Taste of Illinois Valley“ fund-raiser on June 26 at Bridgeview Vineyards Winery in Cave Junction ...
