ART GALORE! - Illinois River Valley Arts Council will kick off its 2010 Second Friday ArtWalk series in Downtown Cave Junction on May 14 from 5 to 8 p.m.
SCOUTIN“ FOR ACTION - Boy Scout Troop 880 has begun fund-raising for summer camp. Members will hold a spaghetti dinner and bake sale Friday, May 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cave Junction Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church is on Junction Avenue next to Jubilee Park. Also, the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be having a car wash on Sunday, May 16 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Oregon Caves Chevron, corner of Caves and Redwood Hwy. Phone 541-592-6045 for more information.
DUTY CALLS - In commemoration of Police Memorial Week from Sunday, May 9 through Saturday, May 15, a ceremony will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14 at Newman United Methodist Church in Grants Pass (on Sixth Street between A and B streets). The observance will honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and the sacrifices they and their families have made.
CEMETERY PROJECT - Laurel Cemetery Association will hold its annual clean-up day on Saturday, May 15. Volunteers are needed for as long as they can help between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants are asked to bring tools including rakes and shovels if possible.
FABULOUS FUND-RAISING - Saturday, May 15 is set for a fund-raiser for the Class of 2010 Safe & Sober Grad Night Party at Illinois Valley High School. The fund-raiser will feature “succulent barbecued pork or vegetarian gourmet dish,“ plus salad, fresh breads, McGrew“s famous au gratin potatoes, veg kabobs, and wine or sparkling juice. And there will be “a special decadent dessert table.“ The meal will be served on the Bridgeview Vineyards Winery deck overlooking the pond. Music will be by Jefferson. The 4 to 7 p.m. event will include a fashion show, and silent and live auctions. All proceeds will help pay for the grad party on Tuesday, June 1, following the 2010 class commencement ceremony. NOTEPAD - New kindergarten and first-grade students to Evergreen Elementary School have the opportunity to attend an orientation, meet the teachers, visit the classrooms, and submit paperwork on Thursday, May 13 from 2 to 2:50 p.m. Meet in the library. Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to start kindergarten ... “Everybody Loves Larry“ wrist bands at $2 each are available at Illinois Valley High School in support of Larry Ragsdale, a 2008 IVHS graduate seriously injured in a head-on collision near Corvallis in March. He remains in a semicoma in a hospital. All proceeds will support Larry in his recovery ... Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a mixer on Friday, May 21 for members and others in business at the Chateau at Oregon Caves National Monument. Illinois Valley Booster Club will hold a Community Field Day event on Saturday, June 5 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Teams will participate in events including a wheelbarrow race and water balloon toss.
