Dr. Robinson aiming for 4th District seat

From our weekly issue dated April 28, 2010

Arthur Robinson, an Illinois Valley resident and Oregon 4th Congressional District candidate, addressed voters during the Wednesday, April 21 KAJO Radio talk show, based out of Grants Pass.

Robinson is running in the May 18 Republican primary vs. Douglas County resident Jaynee Germond. She had run against incumbent Peter DeFazio (D-Springfield) as a Constitution Party candidate in the 2008 General Election.

The 4th Congressional district comprises Lane, Linn, Coos, Curry, Douglas and parts of Josephine and Benton counties. DeFazio has been the representative since 1987.

On Thursday, April 15, Robinson spoke at a Tax Day Tea Party rally in Eugene. He originally was scheduled to speak at the rally in front of the Josephine County Courthouse in Grants Pass that day, but opted to appear in Eugene because it is the population base for the congressional district.

Robinson said that the Eugene event had approximately 1,700 “enthusiastic“ people, and he praised the Tea Party movement.

“It“s a terrific thing,“ Robinson said. “It“s made up of literally millions of very fine Americans who are concerned about their country and want to take some political action. They“re many of the most productive and outstanding citizens in our country.“

Ever since he filed to run for office, Robinson said that a “river of people“ have been phoning him asking for campaign signs and offering to aid his efforts.

If elected to Congress, Robinson pledged to vote for a repeal of the health-care reform bill that passed earlier this year.

“Once implemented, it means that government bureaucrats will decide who is sick and who is well, who will live and who will die,“ Robinson said. “This is not something that should be determined by government bureaucrats. It should be determined by free people.“

Robinson said that he also would vote to combat excessive government spending, noting that the nation is now more than $12 trillion in debt.

“Each American family on average is indebted to the extent of more than $100,000 to China, Japan, European bankers and people all over the world,“ he said. “They“ve run these debts up in our name, and we“re supposed to pay it back.“

Also promised by Robinson is support for any law that “makes it unlawful to buy a congressman“s vote by providing favors for his district.“

“This is the kind of dealing that has made the House of Representatives a detriment to the American people, rather than a good body that is doing the nation“s work,“ he stated.

Robinson said that since Congress holds the federal government“s purse strings, it has the ability to “de-fund“ inefficient programs.
