Soup for the Souls offered an eclectic menu, as Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance (IVSHA) held its third annual fund-raiser Saturday, April 10, at I.V. Senior Center.

Elaine Barker“s 1st grade pottery class created beautiful blue bowls; Greg Walter baked focaccia bread; and Carol Dickson and the Purple Pincushion Quilt Shop donated quilts for the cause.

Several restaurants donated a variety of savory soups, including hot-and-sour from Golden Dragon Gate, chicken noodle from Junction Inn and albondigas from Carlos“ Mexican Restaurante.

Overall, more than 100 people enjoyed a scrumptious feast of delicious soup, bread and cake thanks to several generous community members. Volunteers cavorted through the audience, parading delectable cakes that auctioned for up to $80 each.

Lucky raffle winners won jewelry, a Tower of Moose Munch from Harry & David, toffee from Cary“s of Oregon donated by I.V. Lions Club, and a Family Fun Basket of games and popcorn provided by Pat Jenkins.

Door prizes included wine, dried floral arrangements from Illinois River Valley Arts Council, joint compound, and gravel from Barlow Rock.

Guests enjoyed bidding at a silent auction for great deals on dry wall, metal shelving, “Black Gold“ compost from Good Earth Organics, dinners at 7 Feathers and Elk River casinos, and even a “Baked Goods of the Month Club.“

The benefit raised a “record breaking amount“ for IVSHA.
