Fire Marshal Jerry Schaeffer has earned certification as a Fire and Life Safety Specialist II, announced Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD).

A certificate of achievement was presented by Supervising Deputy Robert Wright of the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) on Wednesday, April 7 at IVFD Station 1 in Cave Junction.

The OSFM Specialist II certification, with Fire Plans Examiner endorsement, recognizes “the work, effort and commitment made by Fire Marshal Schaeffer to attain this certification.“

The Fire and Life Safety Competency Recognition Program defines competencies, provides education and recognizes commitment and scope of practice among fire and life safety professionals in Oregon. The competency recognition program is a joint effort between OSFM and the Oregon Fire Marshals Association.

The program focuses on fire-and-life safety training and technical certifications. Certifications include Dept. of Public Safety Standards and Training Fire Inspector task books. They are based on National Fire Protection Association 1031 Professional Standards for Fire Inspectors, as well as International Code Council certifications.

Schaeffer, with IVFD since 1990, is also an Emergency Medical Technician.

He said that his next goal is to attain his Oregon Fire Marshal status, which he is currently working toward with Wright“s assistance.
