Margaret Irene Smith
Margaret Irene Smith, 97, passed away at Mountview Retirement Community on April 9, 2010. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 14, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
Mrs. Smith was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Canada on Feb. 2, 1913. The family moved to Long Beach, Calif. when Irene was 8-years-old, and she was proud to be a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. She attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School, graduating in 1931.
In 1934 she married Escar Eugene “Smitty“ Smith, who preceded her in death in 1983. Golf was her favorite pastime during the 31 years she lived in Cave Junction. She enjoyed the many friendships that developed during those years.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Gregory M. Smith, of San Ramon, Calif., and Hilary Smith-Wade, of Alpine, Calif. She also is survived by her four grandchildren; Josh Wade, Steven Wade, Youngman Smith and Marshall Smith.
Mrs. Smith will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Eva Kiene
Eva Kiene, 81, of Cave Junction, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass.

She was born Jan. 16, 1929 in Hamburg, Germany. On Sept. 8, 1950 in Hamburg she married Fritz Alexander Kiene. In Germany she was a bookbinder and repaired antique books. In 1960 she came to America. For 36 years she lived in Cave Junction.
She loved planting flowers and taking care of all the deer and other animals that passed her way. Her greatest enjoyment was visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Hella & Roy Hiljus; a daughter and son-in-law, Susie & Don Hoover; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom & Cindy Kiene; a grandson, and two great-grandchildren.

Alice Cecilia Gibson
Alice Cecilia Gibson, 82, of Grants Pass, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.
A funeral service was held on Friday, April 9 at Chapel of the Valley - L.B. Hall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Gibson officiating. Interment was at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.

Alice was born April 9, 1927 in Grants Pass to John W. & Frances Smith. She was raised in Illinois Valley and graduated from Kerby Union High School. She moved to Grants Pass in 1966. She worked for the Siskiyou National Forest as a dispatcher from 1963 until her retirement in 1984.
On Nov. 29, 1996 in North Tahoe, Nev., she married Jim Dale Gibson, who survives her.
She was formerly a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Cave Junction, the Illinois Valley Garden Club and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She enjoyed gardening, photography, travel, camping, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, bowling and golf.
Besides her husband, Jim, survivors include four sons, Jim Vahrenwald, of Seattle, Thomas Moulton, of San Francisco, Larry Gibson, of Auberry, Calif., and Spike Gibson of San Diego; four daughters, Linda Peil, of Talent, Ore., Lorrie Turner and Robin Gibson, of Grants Pass, and Judy Stevenson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Ruth Boucher of Redmond, Ore.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wesley Vahrenwald, her second husband, Donald Moulton (1990), her brother, John Smith, and a son, Donald Moulton.
