The beauty of the Illinois Valley area affects the paintings of artist Deborah Ann Dawson, and shows her love of Nature.

Recently reopening her Downtown Cave Junction art studio, the Artful Being, at 119-1/2 S. Redwood Hwy., she is teaching watercolors and drawing to valley residents.

Additionally, examples of her work will be displayed through April and May at Sterling Savings Bank in Cave Junction, as she is Illinois Valley Fine Artists Inc. featured artist.

Dawson, who moved to the valley in 2001, has been teaching art to all ages for 20 years, and her work has won many awards during the years. She has an art degree from Southern Oregon University at Ashland, and has worked with the Southern Oregon Arts Council as an Artist in Residence in Jackson and Josephine counties.

She was employed as a graphic artist for eight years with Southern Oregon Education Service District in Medford. She belongs to the Watercolor Society of Oregon, Illinois Valley Fine Artists Inc. and The Redwood Coast Art Association and Harbor Gallery in Crescent City, Calif.

She is known for her gentle but academic approach to teaching art and has taught workshops in Oregon and Northern California. Many of her students have gone on to be award-winning artists. Demonstrating her techniques to groups has always been fun for her and last year she juried a National Art Show.

Her work is highly collectable, and she has many loyal collectors on the West Coast. She only sells originals.

For those interested in learning to draw or wishing to learn the art of watercolors, Dawson will have classes and workshops in May. For more information phone 541-415-1191.
