Jerry Lee Buell
Jerry Lee Buell, 81, an Illinois Valley native and U.S. military veteran, of Cave Junction, Ore., passed away at his residence March 31, 2010 with his wife, Ellie, by his side.
A memorial service honoring the life of Jerry Buell will be held Saturday, April 10, beginning at 1 p.m. at Takilma Bible Church, 10343 Takilma Road.
Mr. Buell was born in Selma, Ore. in 1928 on the family homestead of 168 acres where he grew up. He attended Kerby Union High School, graduating in 1946. In the same year he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 of decanted service in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Ellie, who he married in 1994 on the land he was born on. He is also survived by four stepchildren, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, an aunt, two nieces and one nephew. He also had numerous friends in Illinois Valley and beyond.
Mr. Buell was dedicated to Illinois Valley and U.S. military veterans. He proudly served for years as a member of Illinois Valley Lions Club, being Hospital Chairman, Lion Tamer and Secretary. He received the Lions Club highest award — the Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated humanitarian services — and the Helen Keller Benefactor Award.
He was a member of Glenn Morrison American Legion Post 70, serving as Post Commander for two years and Post Adjutant for many years. He also served as District 4 Commander and Aide to the Commander on the Department level for the American Legion. He was Adjutant in the 40/8 and also for Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a four-time nominee for Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, and was Grand Marshal in parades presented by I.V. Lions Club and Cave Junction Lions Club.
Mr. Buell is one of the last of the Greatest Generation and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Kenneth James Clarke
