Evergreen Elementary School students enjoyed learning about the fundamentals of aviation on Thursday, April 1. Laureano Mier, director of education at Evergreen Air Museum spoke about lift, drag, thrust, and gravity. The students built Styrofoam-plate gliders which later saw head-to-head distance competition. Winner Hailey Mayfield won a t-shirt donated by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Austin Boyle took home a poster from Erickson Air Crane, and Laramie Smith won a prize from Rogue Valley Flyers. Tyler Johnson, a Fruitdale Elementary School student, demonstrated his remote control airplane, which delighted onlookers. (Photos by Michelle Binker, Illinois Valley News)
