The Illinois Valley High School boys varsity baseball team hosted Cascade Christian School on Tuesday, March 23 for a double-header, and lost both games.

Cougar junior Bryan Biggs was the starting pitcher for his squad, and manned the mound until the sixth inning. He was relieved by junior Zach Anderson.

Cascade held a 2-1 lead going into the top of the sixth, and then surged with 3 more runs. By the end of the seventh, Cascade held a 6-1 lead, which was the final score.

The Cougars“ sole run was scored by freshman Mason LaFlamme. Senior Ben Kendall was credited with an RBI. Kendall went 2-4 batting overall. Seniors Brandon Foraker and Tobin Mikels earned 1 hit apiece.

In the second game, Cascade scored 10 runs in the first three innings. Junior Andrew McLaughlin started for the Cougars, and was relieved by Anderson.

The Cougars lost 12-0 after five innings.

On offense, Illinois Valley racked up 7 hits. Anderson got 2; Mikels, McLaughlin, Kendall and juniors Anthony Becker and Curtis Paulson each earned 1 hit.

Coach Bob Johnson credits Cascade“s team for its strong performance.

“Cascade Christian is the best team we“ve played so far,“ Johnson said. “They“re coached well. They did the right things on offense, and played solid defense.“

Weather permitting, I.V. is slated to host North Medford High School on Thursday, April 1 at 4:30 p.m.
