Food forests Frog Farm topic

From our weekly issue dated March 31, 2010

On Saturday, April 10 Spiral Living Center will host the class, Growing Food Forests, with Rogue Valley farmer Don Tipping.

The class will begin at 1 p.m. at the Frog Farm in Takilma. There is a fee. Pre-registration is required. Phone 541-592-3642 on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Forest gardening, or growing fruits, vegetables and herbs in the understory of an orchard, often is promoted by permaculture designers. Students will learn to design, plant and care for high-yield, food-producing communities.

Tipping and his family have operated Seven Seeds Farm, and now Siskiyou Seeds, for the past 13 years on the north slope of Grayback Mountain in Williams. They produce fruit, vegetables, seeds and wool, plus raise chickens and sheep for eggs and lamb.
