Toler leads commissioner candidates in fund-raising

Although approximately 11 candidates have filed for Josephine County Commissioner Position 1, only three are actively engaged in fundraising efforts.
According to the Oregon Secretary of State“s office Website, incumbent Commissioner Dave Toler holds a significant campaign cash advantage.
As of Friday, March 19, Toler reported $8,030 in cash contributions; $1,190 worth of in-kind donations; $4,425 in total expenditures; and an ending cash balance of $9,571.
Toler received a $125 contribution from Josephine County Treasurer John Harelson on Feb. 12, and $101 from fellow Commissioner Dwight Ellis on Feb. 5. Kerby resident John Bowler made $500 contributions on Jan. 29 and Dec. 16, 2009.
Among challengers, Illinois Valley resident Simon Hare listed $5,135 in cash contributions and $4,050 of inkind donations as of March 19.
Hare reported $5,495 in total expenditures and an ending cash balance of $3,689.
The vast majority of the inkind contributions to Hare“s campaign came from Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co., which donated $4,000.
Major contributors to the Hare campaign include Shawn and Linda Hoback, who each gave $1,000. Ron Fields donated $500, and Mark Dickson gave $400.
Jack Brown, Grants Pass resident and Constitution Party of Oregon chairman, reported $3,218 in contributions; $816 in expenditures; and an ending cash balance of $3,013.
Brown received a $1,000 cash contribution from Newswithviews.com on Feb. 23. Selma resident James Rafferty donated $600 on March 1, and Janett Patrick donated $500 on Feb. 22.
The primary election is set for May 18.
