IVFD fire marshal subject of internal investigation

Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) Chief Harry Rich announced on Tuesday, March 23 that a staff member has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Fire Marshal Jerry Schaeffer, a 17 year veteran of the fire district, has been placed on leave, pending the outcome of a complaint-driven internal investigation.
“I want a thorough and complete investigation,“ said Rich.
Recent code-enforcement activity by the fire marshal has stirred up frustrations among Cave Junction restaurateurs, who brought their complaints to the fire chief.
A senior fire district staff member is in charge of the investigation.
