Seed swap set for Saturday

From our weekly issue dated March 03, 2010

Spiral Living Center is sponsoring a free Seed Swap on Saturday, March 6 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Josephine County Bldg. in Downtown Cave Junction.

This is part of a continuing effort to improve access to locally grown food for all who live in Illinois Valley. Attendees are encouraged to bring envelopes and seeds to trade, especially locally adapted, high-yield varieties of fruits and vegetables.

The event will begin with a finger-food potluck, followed by a discussion about seed-saving.

Spiral Living Center seed swap volunteer Grace Brookman says, “Growing a garden and saving your own seeds are two of the most important steps you can take toward self-sufficiency and independence. The next most important step is sharing with your neighbors.

“A seed swap is a great place to do this, whether you're new to gardening or you've been doing it your whole life. Anyone can have a garden and save seeds.“
