Dwayne C. Wood

Dwayne Clay Wood, 79, of Cave Junction, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 in Selma.

A memorial service was held on Friday, Feb. 26, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah“s Witnesses in Cave Junction. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wood was born on Aug. 19, 1930 in Fletcher, Okla. to Owen & Mary Gertrude Wood. In 1948 he moved from California to Illinois Valley. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army and was awarded two Bronze Stars.

On Nov. 22, 1956 in Reno, Nev. he married Permelia Sturgis. Mr. Wood worked in local sawmills for 45 years including, Wamitch Lumber Co., Cabax, and Rough & Ready.

He was a member of Jehovah“s Witnesses, Cave Junction congregation since 1961.

His hobbies included woodworking, flea markets, and socializing.

Survivors include two sons, Mickeal R. Wood, of Keizer, Ore.; and Steven T. Wood, of Wasilla, Alaska; a sister, Betty Steward, of Cave Junction; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Permelia Wood, on Dec. 6, 2009.

Oliver Brown Jr.

Oliver Ulysses Brown Jr., 71, of Selma, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident in Selma.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah“s Witnesses, 2400 Laurel Road, Cave Junction. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown was born Nov. 30, 1938 in LaGrange, Ga. to Oliver & Frances Brown. He graduated from Turner High School in Atlanta, Ga. and Yankton College in South Dakota. He later received his master“s degree in education from California State University. He worked as a health inspector for Los Angeles County for 28 years until his retirement.

As one of Jehovah“s Witnesses, Mr. Oliver enjoyed his ministry greatly. He helped many people with his personal interest in their quest for better spiritual and physical health.

He is survived by a cousin, Shirley Cox, of LaGrange; and a nephew, Marquise Brown, of Los Angeles.
