McCaleb ranch bridge closed

The Rancheria Bridge that crosses Illinois River at McCaleb Ranch on the U.S. Forest Service“s Wild Rivers Ranger District has been temporarily closed to all motor vehicles until further notice due to public safety concerns.
A recent engineer“s site visit discovered that there are numerous missing and rotting planks on this low-water bridge that will require repair prior to the bridge reopening, said the forest service.
Repairs cannot occur until the river level drops and velocity decreases enough to allow workers access under the bridge later this year. Barricades will be placed on Forest Road 4103 087 to warn the public of the closure.
