TREES TREATMENT - Forestry Action Committee will conduct its annual Tree Planting Project day on Saturday, Feb. 27. Volunteer tree planters of all ages should meet at the U.S. Forest Service lower compound at the south end of Cave Junction at 9 a.m., dressed for the weather. MUSIC MANIA - The Illinois Valley High School Band, directed by Sean McKee, will perform a classics concert on Thursday, Feb. 25. It will begin at 7 p.m. in the IVHS cafetorium. There is no admission fee to attend the concert, which is open to the public.
WIZARD “WEE-SCHEDULED!“ - According to drama instructor Tim Talty: Due to casting difficulties, the Lorna Byrne Middle School production of Wizard of Oz has been rescheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, March 10 and 11. Both show times are 7 p.m.
VALLEY HONORS - Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual awards banquet on Saturday, March 6 at the Junction Inn Boswell Room in Cave Junction. Along with a choice of prime rib, chicken or vegetarian entrée, guests will be treated to the foot-stomping sounds of valley Bluegrass favorite, East Fork. Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards will be presented. Tickets are available at the chamber office at the I.V. Visitor Center on Caves Hwy. Phone 541-592-3326.
WONDER WOMEN - To celebrate Women“s History Month, the 18th annual Women“s Café will be held at the Takilma Community Bldg., 9367 Takilma Road, on Saturday, March 6. From 5 to 7 p.m. there will be an exhibit of art by women, followed by various performances including dancing, singing and poetry-reading from 7 to 10 p.m. Food and beverages will be available. HELP FOR HAITI - Due to the generosity of Cave Junction merchants and their customers, some $375 has been sent to American Red Cross for the Haiti Relief Fund. Donation cans placed in participating businesses were decorated and maintained by the after-school service projects class that meets Fridays at the Josephine County Bldg. in CJ. The project will conclude Friday, Feb. 26. Those with other projects that the youths might participate in should contact Bobette Heern at 541-592-5234.
NOTEPAD - Three scholarships worth $2,500 apiece are available through IVHS Alumni & Friends. Funds come from alumni donations and reunion activities held each year around July 4. Senior students can obtain applications in the IVHS counseling office. All applicants are eligible for the $500 SOFCU Community Credit Union/Roni Rausch Broeffle Community Service Award. IVHS senior Heidi Unger will be honored as a Young Women in Public Affairs award recipient ... Candidates for Josephine County commissioner will gather to face questions and offer their views during a forum co-sponsored by Illinois Valley News and Illinois Valley Chamber on Thursday, March 25 at the Josephine County Bldg. in Cave Junction beginning at 6 p.m. ...
