One-man IVHS swim team on hot streak

IVHS swimmer Taylor Harris

The lone Illinois Valley High School Cougar on the swim team, Taylor Harris, has stroked his way to win eight more 1st places within the Special 4-A District.

Harris swam at the All Rogue Invitational on Jan. 9 at Southern Oregon University (SOU) at Ashland. Ten schools competed with more than 200 athletes. His events were the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Harris won two more 1st places within the 4-A District with the times of 25.08 and 55.85 respectively. Harris also swam at the Skyline meet on Jan. 23, his first chance to swim against only the Special 4-A District.

Harris dominated in his events beating out his competition by seconds. Harris“ time for the 50 free was 25.67 and for the 100 free, 56.17.

On Jan. 30, Harris traveled to Oregon Institute of Technology at Klamath Falls one more time to bring home two more 1st places in the 50 free and 100 free events with his times still getting faster; 24.95 and 55.68 respectively.

Harris wrapped up his Predistrict championship competitions at SOU on Feb. 2 with his best times of the season. Harris won two more 1st places with time of 24.85 for the 50 freestyle and 55.17 for the 100 free.

His record this swim season is 18 1st places and two 2nd places. He has represented his high school and his community well. Harris has driven almost 3,000 miles in the last three and a half months just to get to practice at the YMCA pool in Grants Pass.

He will attend the district championship in North Bend on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20.
