I.V. grapplers top Hidden Valley

A home dual meet against Hidden Valley High School on Thursday, Jan. 28 proved successful for the Illinois Valley High School varsity wrestling team.
The Cougars topped the Mustangs 43-26.
Pins were scored by senior Brandon Parker at 103 pounds, sophomore Jesse Orndoff at 112, senior Chris Culver at 119, freshman Gabe Miller at 125, senior Zach Anderson at 135, and senior Mitchell Van Tassel at 140.
Decisions were won by junior John Anderson in the 130-pound division and senior Brandon Foraker at 189.
Up next for the Cougars grapplers is a Thursday, Feb. 4 meet at Henley High School. Coach Jay Miller said that he anticipates a difficult challenge for his squad against the Hornets.
?I?m expecting to run into a hornet?s nest,? Miller said ?They?re very tough.?
On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Cougars will participate in a large tournament in Cottage Grove. Miller said that some 28 teams typically participate in that tourney, which Illinois Valley has won six times.
?Our goal is to finish in the top five there,? Miller stated.
