A lack of offense continues to hamper the Illinois Valley High School girls“ varsity basketball team, which suffered a pair of crushing losses throughout the last week.
On Thursday, Jan. 21, the Cougars traveled to Phoenix High School, where they lost 86-24.
Junior Laurissa Tausaga scored 9 points, junior Chelsea Bullock scored 6, sophomore Megan Householder scored 4, freshman Natalie Wellen scored 3, and senior Beckah Kaberline and sophomore Carly Jensen both scored 1.
The Cougars didn“t fare much better on Monday, Jan. 25, when they hosted Eagle Point High School. Eagle Point won 51-17.
Junior Kayla Johnson scored 9 points, Tausaga scored 6 and Kaberline scored 2.
Up next for the Cougars is a Friday, Jan. 29 contest at Hidden Valley High School in Murphy. Coach Steve Marsden said he expects the Mustangs to bring their “usual solid game.“
“One thing about Hidden Valley is, they play the best defense in the league,“ Marsden said. “They“re very much a defensive-type team, and they“re very patient on offense.“
