  • Wednesday, Dec. 23
    • A Caves Hwy. resident reported a recurring problem with obscene phone calls.
    • Contacted at Jubilee Park, Michael C. Melilli, 33, subsequently was lodged in Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass on a warrant charging possession of a controlled substance (PCS) methamphetamine and a charge of providing false information to police. He also was warned about trespassing and camping at the park.
    • Behind O“Brien Country Store at 7:36 p.m., a man was contacted. It was determined that he was using the wifi connection.
    • Amber L. Cunningham, 25, was cited on a charge of speeding (61 mph in a 45 mph zone) at mile 30 on Redwood Hwy. at 7:50 p.m.
    • Randy J. Smith, 52, was cited on a charge of speeding (63 mph in a 45 mph zone) on Redwood Hwy. near Pinewood Way at 8:07 p.m.
    • A driver and her 5-year-old passenger were transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass by American Medical Response following a reported 45 mph collision with a cow on Holland Loop. The cow was taken home, where it was put down.
    • Continuing harassment by a caller she identified as a state fraud investigator was claimed by a Kerby woman.
    • At 11:08 p.m. a complainant stated that two people were throwing eggs at businesses in Downtown Cave Junction from the roof of a building at Redwood Hwy. and E. Lister Street. Egg evidence was found, but no Humpty Dumpty culprits.
  • Thursday, Dec. 24
    • It was noted by an employee with Pacific Power that a vacant residence on Forest Glen Road had sustained severe water damage due to flooding.
    • Bryan Thompson, 31, was cited on Birch Drive at 7:38 p.m. on a charge of failure to carry proof of insurance and registration. And he was warned for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
    • An uninvited guest was disturbing a party on Birch Drive, according to a caller at 8:06 p.m.
    • On Briar Lane a possible prowler was reported.
    • Someone stated that he“d discovered a severed human foot and a hand near Illinois Valley Golf Course. But it was determined that the “hand“ likely came from a bear, as it lacked an opposable thumb. And numerous animal carcasses, including fox, deer and skinned cats were discovered.
    • Sharon Lee Satmar, 59, was cited at 9:45 p.m. on Redwood Hwy. in Selma on charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII), refusal of a breath test, failure to maintain a lane of travel and failure to carry current proof of insurance.
    • Wayne Gilbert Dingee, 60, was cited on charges of DUII, driving with a suspended license (DWS) and speeding (58 mph in a 45 mph zone) on Redwood Hwy. at Lakeshore Drive at 10:16 p.m. Dingee“s blood-alcohol level was listed at .20.
  • Friday, Dec. 25
    • A rural Cave Junction woman said that her 18-year-old son was “freaking out“ and “trashing the house“ because his Christmas present didn“t work correctly. He left with a friend.
    • On Westside Road a woman reported that a man was walking around in front of a residence with a stick that had a rock taped to it, “like a weapon.“ She was concerned that the man was stalking her sister.
    • At 10:58 p.m. a possible prowler again was reported on Briar Lane.
  • Saturday, Dec. 26
    • Two German shepherd-type dogs were said to have attacked goats on Deer Creek Road at 8:25 a.m.
    • Madrona Drive resident Daniel Troy Harwood, 18, was lodged in county jail on charges of fourth-degree domestic assault and resisting arrest. A charge of obstruction was referred to the county district attorney.
    • A disagreement between property owners and people living on the property in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy. became a disturbance reported at 12:57 p.m. It was determined to be a civil matter.
    • No evidence of a crime was found after an alarm sounded at a residence in the 20000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 4:42 p.m.
    • Theft of a shotgun from a residence on Caves Hwy. was reported.
    • Deputies could not locate a large, silver-colored SUV missing its rear tires said to be in a ditch near Pomeroy Dam.
    • A witness heard glass breaking and saw two young men running from Pharmacy Express in Downtown CJ around 11:32 p.m. The pair reportedly left northbound in a newer, dark-green Subaru wagon. Numerous prescription bottles were left on the parking lot. A report for second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree theft was pending.
  • Sunday, Dec. 27
    • At 1:57 a.m. a stolen vehicle was recovered from a ditch off Westside Road.
    • An espresso machine was said to be the reason for an alarm at a Selma coffee stand at 2:40 a.m. It was not listed whether regular or decaf was involved, but the machine malfunctioned.
    • It was noted at 9:11 a.m. that a “Stop“ sign was down on Holland Loop at Caves Hwy.
    • In Selma a man said that the mother of his child left for Washington about one month ago, taking the child with her. He was advised to contact an attorney.
    • Some sort of disturbance occurred at a residence behind Western Plaza when a woman began screaming that she was being chased by a man. Two other women, armed variously with a rake, a handgun and a crowbar, also were involved. Several people were contacted by a deputy, who was unable to confirm that any of them were involved.
    • A Briar Lane resident heard what sounded like pounding on an outside wall of her home at 10:46 p.m.
    • Fernwood Drive resident Harold Wayne Joiner, 66, was lodged in county jail on a charge of domestic menacing.
  • Monday, Dec. 28
    • Theft of a mailbox and damage to others in the 1100 block of Caves Hwy. was reported at 9:32 a.m.
    • Theft of 20 to 25 gallons of gasoline from a vehicle on Madrona Drive was the topic of a complaint.
    • Theft of a white Dodge Durango with the word “Fire“ on both sides from the U.S. Forest Service compound south of Cave Junction was reported by an employee. Cost to repair damage to a chain-link fence was estimated at $240.
    • Theft of 10 bales of hay from a barn on White Schoolhouse Road was reported.
    • A caller stated that his vehicle was struck from behind on a parking lot in Downtown CJ. The driver of the other vehicle drove away, apparently before leaving information, but the caller had several witnesses.
    • John Richard Hindle, 16, was cited on charges of driving uninsured and without an operator“s permit on S. Redwood Hwy. at Lister Street at 8:55 p.m. He also was warned for a shifting load, as something flew out of the vehicle and struck a sheriff“s office patrol car.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 29
    • Joel Benjamin Jellesed, 42, was cited on a charge of speeding (75 mph in a 55 mph zone) on Lakeshore Drive at 10:26 p.m.
