CHRISTMAS CONNECTION - Cave Junction Cares will hold its annual all-comers Christmas breakfast and toy give-away on Friday, Dec. 25 in the pavilion at Jubilee Park in Cave Junction from 10 a.m. to noon. Come rain or shine, Santa Claus will be on hand with toys for children. All are welcome to enjoy a hot breakfast in the heated pavilion. Donations are welcome, and an account has been established at Home Valley Bank for deposits. VOTER VERIFICATION - Tuesday, Jan. 5 is the last day for new registrants to register to vote in the Jan. 26 special election. Registration forms are available at the Josephine County Clerk’s office, the Cave Junction Post Office, DMV offices, or visit www.co.josephine.or.us (Clerk’s office, Elections, Register to Vote).
VIRAL VIGILANCE- Anticipating additional waves of H1N1 influenza to strike during the next few months, Josephine County Public Health Dept. has announced that H1N1 vaccine is available to everyone who comes to the public health office or to area health-care providers. The vaccination previously was prioritized for “at-risk” groups. JoCo Public Health, 715 Dimmick St. in Grants Pass, is open Mondays through Fridays, 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Phone 474-5325 for more information.
MOVIE NIGHT - Movie Night at Illinois Valley High School cafeteria on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 4 to 9 p.m. Scheduled movies are "G Force" (rate G) and "Night at the Museum" (rate PG). NOTEPAD - Home Valley Bank is coordinating donations to Josephine County Food Bank. So far, some $947 has been pledged, and employees have donated 350 pounds of dry food and 70 pounds of ham to the effort. Additionally, HVB is sponsoring two families, one each in Grants Pass and Cave Junction, by fulfilling Christmas gift “wish lists.” Jill Gleysteen, vice president of public relations at HVB, said that “though the identities of these families must remain private, HVB can definitely comment on the wonderful feeling it gives the employees to help these families during the holiday season.” ... Kerbyville Museum was forced to cancel a special holiday train display for two consecutive weeks due to the effect of frozen water pipes. Pipes along the ceiling burst, causing flooding and water damage to items in the Portrait Room, said museum VP Lloydeen Davis. It is hoped that the museum can reopen on Saturday, Dec. 26, to welcome holiday train spectators ... “Bright Morning Star: A Musical Celebration of New Beginnings,” is the title of the upcoming concert series presented by the 3 Rivers Chorale, directed by Kate Campbell, with pianist/organist I'lana Cotton and flutist Tim Wallace. Performances will be on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Cave Junction beginning at 3 p.m. Admission to the Cave Junction performance is by donation.
