A 12-year-old boy has been arraigned as a suspect in a suspected arson fire that took place on the evening of Friday, Oct. 23 at the former Family Tree Nursery at 441 S. Junction Ave. in Cave Junction.
That announcement was made by Fire Marshal Jerry Schaeffer, of Illinois Valley Fire District, during the Thursday night, Dec. 10 meeting of its board of directors at administrative headquarters.
Schaeffer said that the boy is in custody.
“He’s being dealt with,” Schaeffer said. “Hopefully, we’ve eliminated a problem in the community for a while.”
Wally Hicks, who handles most of the juvenile cases through the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office, confirmed that the 12-year-old was arraigned on Thursday, Dec. 10. The suspect is charged with reckless burning and second-degree burglary, a Class “C” felony.
Hicks said that the youth will be represented by a court-appointed attorney.
