Herbert Keith Bright

Herbert Keith Bright, 55, died at home in Cave Junction on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009. Cremation is planned, and a service will be held at a later date.


Permelia Wood

Permelia Brydon Wood, 74, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 at a health center in Grants Pass.

A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 11, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Permelia was born on March 1, 1935 in Los Angeles, Calif. In 1943 she moved from Los Angeles County to Selma, where she attended Kerby School. On Nov. 22, 1956 in Reno, Nev. she married Dwayne Clay Wood.

She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Cave Junction Congregation, since 1961.

Her hobbies included crocheting, crafts and going to the flea market with her husband. As a family they enjoyed recreational motorcycling, especially at Lemolo Reservoir near Diamond Lake.

Survivors include her husband, Dwayne Clay Wood of Cave Junction; two sons, Mickeal R. Wood, of Salem, and Steven T. Wood, of Big Lake, Alaska; one sister; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rashell "Roz” Brown

Rashell “Roz” Brown, 51, of Cave Junction, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at Riverside Park Trevillian Pavilion. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Rashell was born on June 3, 1958 in Bakersfield, Calif. She graduated from Corona High School in Corona, Calif., where she played soccer. On Nov. 12, 1999 at the Fruitdale Grange Hall in Grants Pass she married Ed Brown. She lived in Grants Pass and Sunny Valley before moving to Cave Junction seven years ago. She was previously an agent with New York Life. Currently, she was an Arbonne Consultant and owned and operated Life Works Coaching and Consulting.

Rashell was a coach for her son’s soccer teams. She was a certified college soccer referee. She volunteered as a coach at Illinois Valley High School girls soccer team and was very proud of her team. She was a racquetball enthusiast at Club Northwest and played competitively. Rashell was an advocate for seniors and the disabled through her volunteerism at HASL, which encourages independent living.

For the benefit of HASL, she was one of the founders of its New Year’s Eve Gala and silent auction. She volunteered for the Soroptimist fund-raiser serving Umpqua ice cream at the Josephine County Fair and had her own booth at the Holistic Fair.

Rashell was a charter member of Soroptimist International of River Valley and was an active supporter since 1998. She was also active with Grants Pass and Josephine County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. She attended Greeters once a week and was a past greeters hostess.

She was known for her willingness to help with any special project and was especially involved with Concerts in the Park, where she assisted with the stage construction each week.

Her hobbies included working around the ranch; exploring spiritual matters such as healing and meditation; studying Native American Culture; and was supportive of causes which enriched women’s lives. She played soccer with local co-ed teams.

In addition to her husband, Darrell “Ed” Brown, of Cave Junction, she is survived by two sons, Lee Austin Manes, of Battle Creek, Mich., and Kyle Justin Manes, of Henderson, Nev.; two stepdaughters, Amanda White, of Roseburg, and Nicole Kathleen Brown, of Portland; a stepson, Jason Edward Brown, of Roseburg; parents Bob & Norma Rohe, of Corona; a brother, Robert Rohe, of Middletown, Calif.; two sisters, Kellie Barney, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Renee Ehrich, of Joplin, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
