CARING COALITION - An account has been established at Home Valley Bank in Cave Junction to accept donations for the CJ Cares annual Christmas event at Jubilee Park. The Christmas-morning affair features breakfast and a visit with Santa Claus. Cash, toys and food are needed to ensure program success, and volunteers are appreciated. HOLIDAY RAIL - Closed unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 12 due to frozen water pipes, Kerbyville Museum will be open on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with its annual Christmas model railroad display. There will be free museum admission for each person with two cans of food, which will be donated to Illinois Valley Family Coalition.
IN THE SING - Illinois Valley High School Choir will perform a Winter Concert on Thursday, Dec. 17, beginning at 7 p.m. In conjunction with the concert, IVHS Interact Club will hold a holiday bazaar beginning at 5 p.m. featuring a number of vendors, and some bargain items.
DONOR DAY - The American Red Cross has scheduled a blood drive at Illinois Valley Senior Center, 520 E. River St. in Cave Junction, across from Jefferson State Financial Group, on Thursday, Dec. 17. VIRUS VIGILANCE - Josephine County Public Health Dept. has announced that it has a limited quantity of “seasonal” influenza vaccine available on a first-come/first-served basis to the general public. Public Health, located at 715 Dimmick St. in Grants Pass, is open Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Phone 474-5325 for more information. There is a fee if uninsured.
NOTEPAD - Rotary Club of Illinois Valley has donated some $1,700 in new toys to the Cave Junction Cares Christmas program. Those toys, and others gathered during the I.V. Bikers Toy Run or donated through the Sons of God Motorcycle Club, will be given away on Christmas morning at Jubilee Park … A bogus offer of Illinois Valley High School-sponsored calendars is being pitched to valleyites via telephone, said Mark Higgins, IVHS athletic director. If anyone with caller ID can catch this “Grinch,” Higgins would appreciate it if you’d let him know. Phone 592-2116 to drop a dime on the scammer … Santa & Mrs. Claus (good friends of Frank & Linda Abernathy), will hold Christmas story time at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20 at Lue-van-o’s. Santa said that he’s also likely to “just pop in from time-to-time” to see his buddy, Fred Luevano. The store was selected as the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Decorating Contest winner … “Freedom from Smoking,” a program to help smokers kick tobacco “for good,” is offered through OHMS Community Health Education Center in Grants Pass.
