Santa Claus visited Cave Junction on a chilly Saturday night, Dec. 5 during the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual tree lighting on the lot adjacent to the Junction Inn. Santa had candy canes for the kids and hot cocoa and cookies were offered. Singers with the Illinois Valley High School Choir (above) lent their voices to the festivities.

Thanks to a grant, the Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) is now the proud owner of a 2010 Polaris Ranger 6-by-6 utility vehicle. IVFD Maintenance Battalion Chief Kris Sherman said that the vehicle will provide the district with “another avenue to access people in distress.”

Pearl Harbor Day was commemorated by the American Legion Post 70 & Auxiliary on Monday, Dec. 7 in front of Cave Junction City Hall with a flag ceremony, music by the IVHS Band, and a reading of the names of those who served and were lost.

Holiday Live! -- songs of joy and peace -- will be heard at Lorna Byrne Middle School; Saturday, Dec. 19 from 1 to 5 p.m., sponsored by Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC).

The Spiral Living Center will present “a delicious” Local Foods Dinner, silent auction and slideshow review of 2009 events on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Takilma Community Bldg. at 9367 Takilma Road, southeast of Downtown Cave Junction.
