Drought-tolerant garden work under way at library
From our weekly issue dated November 25, 2009
Work has begun on the new landscape project at the Illinois Valley Branch of Josephine County Libraries Inc. at 209 W. Palmer St. in Cave Junction.
On Saturday morning, Nov. 14 more than a dozen volunteers arrived, armed with gardening implements. Among outfits providing material support were Althouse Nursery, which donated a variety of native plants; Ron Padgett, of Harmony Gardens, for bringing a collection of boulders and the equipment to place them; and Carol McBride, who provided garden design.
“Deepest thanks to those wonderful volunteers and heartfelt appreciation (to our sponsors),” wrote I.V. library advocate Linda Naydol.
“The installation of this garden will be an exciting change presenting a new face for our library. The completed garden will offer educational opportunities where the community can learn about the benefits of drought tolerant landscapes and identification of native plants,” said Naydol.
“Our new library garden is designed with the library user in mind,” she added, “as it will offer places to sit and read, do homework, and reflect and relax.”
Library supporters plan future work days to complete this project.
