XC duo strong to the finish

From our weekly issue dated November 25, 2009

Two Lady Cougar runners represented Illinois Valleys cross country team in fine fashion at the state meet held at Lane Community College in Eugene on Saturday, Nov. 7.

They were among 119 of the state’s best runners at this event. However, Casey Robertson and Jasmine Prickett knew they had worked hard all season and deserved to be there. They did what they do best -- run.

Robertson finished the day with the top 25 runners at 20th place, with a time of 21.21.00, little more than a minute and a half behind the top finisher. Prickett’s time was slightly longer at 24.12.00.

Robertson highlighted her season with the fifth best time in the Skyline Conference this season with a time of 21.01.86. This time was 43rd out of 402 runners in the state 4-A class. Prickett had her personal best time in the district meet.

In fact all six girls had their best times of the season at the Skyline District Meet. “They really step it up at districts. I am proud of them”, said coach Janie Pope. Team members this year were Mali Witchelo, Erin Byrne, Hailee Parker, Tyler Delaney, Heidi Unger, Prickett and Robertson.
